I opened up a beer that I bought based on the style alone, it’s a farmhouse ale. This one is Saint Somewhere Plus tôt L’etat and it’s brewed in collaboration with Prairie Artisan Ales. I like beer by Prairie so I suppose that influenced me too. Having looked at the label for the first time just now, this beer is brewed with persimmon, elder flowers, and “Florida terroir”. This beer definitely shows the fruit used. I’ve only had persimmons once but this really carries the aroma and flavor well. The aroma is sweet and fruity and the flavor is showing a lot of alcohol, which is strange at only 6.5%…maybe I’m misreading it. I’m not sure I like this beer very much but I’ll look for something else delicious from Saint Somewhere.
My second beer was a Santa Fe Java Stout from my recent beer trade. I’ve had this beer before and know it’s delicious. Santa Fe makes a number of beers that have impressed me and I tend to try all of their releases that are available locally. This one says “Not for use with donuts” on the can, I think it’s pretty hilarious. The coffee flavor is great, although in a completely different way than the Arizona Wilderness Superstition Coffee Stout I reviewed recently, this beer has a much more chocolatey flavor paired with the coffee. Worth a try…or 4.
