Shared a beer with my dad tonight, we had a Great Divide Hercules Double IPA. It was really very good. Plenty of hop aroma and flavor, and you could taste the alcohol for sure. I think the Hercules is barrel aged, it isn’t clear from the bottle…? I remember having some of this once before, and it was very good then as well. I’m not sure this one is quite as fresh. I was the one who got my dad hooked on craft beer not too long ago. I distinctly remember him saying he didn’t like IPAs nearly as much as a nice stout but lately I think just about every single beer he has bought has been hoppy.
Next I went off on my own and had an 8 Wired iStout. I’m really impressed by this brewery, every beer I’ve had from them was great. This one has great body and massive chocolatey malt character. I really should keep an eye out and make sure I’m following the things they make, I’d hate to miss something as delicious as this! Also, let this beer warm up! Beers like this are delicious right out of the fridge, but that’s not even half of their potential. As this beer warms up the flavors are even more pronounced and complex. The alcohol becomes a greater presence in the nose as well.
